Pre-retirement readiness: We helped a couple on the cusp of retirement by building a long-range financial plan with them, which included evaluating an annuity they owned to determine how it fit into their financial picture and whether it was needed. As part of this work, we also recommended tax-efficient withdrawal strategies from their investment accounts when they begin using those assets to replace their monthly employment income.
Investment review and analysis: As part of building a long-range financial plan for a client, we reviewed their current investments and highlighted the ongoing cost they were paying for the mutual funds they owned. We suggested lower cost investments that were consistent with their target asset allocation. In the context of their financial plan, we also discussed the inflation-related risk of holding high amounts of cash for long periods of time and how this negatively impacted their ability to meet future expenses that grew faster than projected cash returns.
University retirement plans: We have worked with multiple employees from local universities to help them evaluate their investment choices within their deferred compensation and retirement plans. This included helping them understand how their money was invested and, where needed, we recommended changes to their investments and allocation.
Tax planning - Multi-year Roth IRA conversion: We worked with a high-net-worth client nearing retirement on a multi-year income projection that analyzed the estimated current and future tax ramifications of Roth conversions over multiple years. This provided the client information with about the tax benefits and costs of converting IRA dollars to their Roth IRA and its positive impact on the future value of their investment accounts.
Young family starting out: We worked with a family with young children to build an investment savings plan that maximized the benefits of their workplace retirement plans while balancing saving for college and their future retirement. As part of the engagement, we quantified their need for term life insurance to financially protect the family and discussed the need and importance of having estate planning documents (wills, power of attorney, healthcare power of attorney, etc.) in place.
